QUINCY, Mass. – The New England College women's volleyball team saw their 2022 season come to a conclusion in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship finals, falling short in four sets to the host Lions of Eastern Nazarene College at the Lahue Athletic Center in Quincy, Massachusetts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 'Grims very nearly stole the first set from the Lions, pushing the top-seeded defending champs to extra rallies and tying it up at 26-26 off a kill from senior middle blocker Samantha Vargas (Riverside, Calif.). But the Lions closed out the set to take a 1-0 lead.
- Down 21-20 in the second set, the 'Grims stormed back taking five of the next seven rallies including the winning kill on set point, once again at the hands of Vargas.
- Eastern Nazarene dominated the third and fourth sets to close out the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC junior outside hitter Amber Thi (Kalihi, Hawaii) led the 'Grims with 13 kills, 11 digs and four block assists.
- NEC junior setter Arianna Blaize Llamas (Honolulu, Hawaii) finished with 15 set assists with eight digs and three service aces. Llamas' ace total gives her the
- NEC senior libero Jaycie Kodama (Pauoa Valley, Hawaii), playing in the final match of her storied career, finished with nine digs on the day, finishing with a school-record 1121 career digs.
- ENC graduate middle blocker Halle Julian (Whitman, Mass.) hit .600 with 15 kills to lead the Lions.
- ENC junior setter Telma Zelaya (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) tallied 43 set assists with 12 digs, four aces and five kills.
- Kodama was joined on the NECC All-Tournament team by junior middle blocker Tatiana Sampson (Kailua, Hawaii), who posted seven total blocks, and senior outside hitter Renee McBride-Rogers (Midwest City, Okla.), who finished with 11 kills on the day.
