WESTFIELD, Mass. – The New England College men's basketball team took the loss to Westfield State on Saturday at the Woodward Center in Westfield, Massachusetts to wrap up their Rick Martin / Hampton Inn Tournament play.

TURNING POINTS
- The two teams battled hard as the game remained close for a majority of the first half until Westfield State attempted to pull away. The Owls had created a double-digit lead before junior forward Alex Jean (Peabody, Mass.) scored on a putback as time expired to reduce the lead to eight.
- With 1:52 left in the game, the 'Grims narrowed the gap to just five points on a layup by junior guard Kyle Inglis (Burlington, Mass.).
- Over the last two minutes of play, the Owls were able to hold off any late rally attempts for the Pilgrims as Westfield State held on by nine points.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Inglis exploded for a career-high 32 points in the loss. His previous high was 27 points on 12/11/21 in an overtime loss at Salve Regina.
- NEC sophomore guard Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) recorded 14 points and 9 rebounds while freshman shooting guard Stravis Lutchman (Bradenton, Fla.) added 10 points while connecting on 2-of-5 from long range.
- Westfield State's duo of JT Thompson (Columbia, S.C.) and Jeremy Remigio (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) each scored 20 points for the Owls.
- Brendon Hamilton (Worcester, Mass.) added 17 points and 17 boards for the home team.
- WSU shot 45.3 percent from the field while holding NEC to just 33.3 percent.
- The Owls won the rebounding battle 51 to 36.
- Williams was named to the All-Tournament team.
- This was the first ever matchup between the two programs.
UP NEXT
- Up next for NEC, the team returns home for a matchup with Rivier on Tuesday set to tip-off at 5:00 PM.
- Westfield State faces an extended break before returning to action on Thursday, December 1st at 7:00 PM as they host Clark University.
