Jones Leads Women’s Hoops to Fourth Straight Win

WORCESTER, Mass. – The New England College women's basketball team won their fourth straight game with a 71-66 victory at Worcester State University on Thursday evening at Brisette Court in Worcester, Massachusetts in non-conference action.

TURNING POINT

  • After a slow start, the 'Grims recovered and took a 34-33 lead going into halftime. In the third quarter, NEC used a 10-0 run as they started to pull away, capped off with a jumper from junior guard Juliana Hernandez (McFarlane, Cali.) with 4:44 to go.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Lancers rallied, tying the game at 61-61 with 2:56 to go. But a huge three-pointer by NEC senior forward Ericka Pratt (Miami, Fla.) with 27 seconds remaining proved to be the dagger as the 'Grims held on.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • NEC senior guard Asia Jones (Boynton Beach, Fla.) exploded for a career-high 25 points on nine-of-fifteen shooting from the floor including a perfect six-of-six from inside the arc.
  • Pratt posted her third double-double of the season with 16 points, a game-high 15 rebounds and four assists. Pratt comes into the game as last week's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week and was likewise a New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) honoree.
  • Worcester State senior guard Erin Gallella (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the Lancers with 17 points.
  • NEC junior guard Alissia Corona (Wylie, Texas) added ten points while junior center Kathleen Rodriguez (McFarlane, Cali.) pulled down eleven boards with eight points.
  • The Pilgrims evened up the all-time series record 1-1 against the Lancers.

UP NEXT

  • Up next for NEC, the team travels to Colby College on Saturday for the Mules's Tip-Off Tournament for a 2:00 p.m. game against the host team.
  • Worcester State themselves travel to the Wesleyan University Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. game against Rivier University.
