HOW IT HAPPENED
- After dropping a hotly-contested first set, the Pilgrims came roaring back in the second, going up 16-10 after a kill by senior middle blocker Samantha Vargas (Riverside, Calif.). But the Rams rallied, surging past NEC to take it
- The third set saw New England trailing 22-19 with their backs against the wall. Showing the grit that has seen them overcome injuries and adversity all season, stormed back with a 6-0 run off the serve of senior libero Jaycie Kodama (Pauoa Valley, Hawaii) to claim their first set of the night.
- The fourth set was another back-and-forth affair early on, but the Rams pulled away down the stretch.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC junior middle blocker Tatiana Sampson (Kailua, Hawaii) led the Pilgrims with nine kills and two solo blocks.
- Kodama led a strong defensive effort with 13 digs to go along with two service aces.
- Vargas contributed six kills and 12 digs, while junior setter Arianna Blaize Llamas (Honolulu, Hawaii) added 17 set assists and eight digs.
- Hitting percentage proved decisive, with the Rams holding an 18.8 to 6.7 advantage.
