Flavil’s Return Sparks Men’s Soccer Past Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior forward Wiskens Flavil (Boston, Mass.) scored two goals in his first action of the season as the New England College men's soccer team won 4-2 at Mitchell College in New England Collegiate Conference action on Wednesday evening in New London, Connecticut.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Flavil, the 2021 NECC Player of the Year and Tournament Most Valuable Player, returned to lineup for the first time this year, scored the go-ahead goal in the 67th minute and then the eventual game-winner in the 85th minute. It was his first goal since scoring in last season's championship game.
  • NEC graduate forward Tucker Stenger (Enfield, N.H.) opened the scoring just 1:12 into the game when he took a pass from sophomore midfielder William Scala (Manchester, N.H.) and finished for his third goal of the season to put the Pilgrims up 1-0.
  • NEC freshman midfielder Anthony Aguiar (Guilford, N.H.) scored his second goal of the season in the 86th minute, effectively putting the game away with a commanding 4-1 lead.
  • NEC sophomore goalkeeper Hayden Walker (Manchester, N.H.) posted a season-high nine saves to preserve the victory for the 'Grim
  • Total shots were 22-15 in favor of the Mariners.

UP NEXT

  • NEC will wrap up its regular season on Saturday when they play host to Eastern Nazarene College with the number one seed in the NECC Tournament potentially on the line. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
  • Mitchell travels to Lesley University on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. game.
