Women’s Volleyball Comes Up Short at Keene State

BOXSCORE

KEENE, N.H. – The New England College women's volleyball team lost in three sets at Keene State University on Tuesday evening at Spaulding Gymnasium in Keene, New Hampshire in non-conference action.

THE BASICS
Score:                    New England College 0, Keene 3 (26-24, 25-20, 25-23)
Records:               Pilgrims 10-16 | Owls 10-14

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The 'Grims had set point in the first, after a kill from junior outside hitter Amber Thi (Kalihi, Hawaii) put NEC ahead 24-23.  But the Owls took the next three rallies to pull ahead and close.
  • Down two sets in the third, NEC senior libero Jaycie Kodama (Pauoa Valley, Hawaii) gave the Pilgrims a 23-21 lead late in the stanza off a service ace. But once again the Owls would answer with four straight rallies, including three off the serve of junior libero Reagan Fleming (Pearl River, N.Y.) to take the set and the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • NEC senior outside hitter Renee McBride-Rogers (Midwest City, Okla.) continued her strong play of late with a team-high eight kills and a .261 hitting percentage.
  • Kodama tallied ten digs on the night with three service aces. Kodama's dig total gives her 363 for the season, breaking the previous school single-season record of 362 set by former Pilgrim great Meaghan Six in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Kodama already held the NEC record in career digs, as well as being the first 'Grim ever to reach one thousand digs for her career.
  • NEC junior setter Arianna Blaize Llamas (Honolulu, Hawaii) posted 24 set assists with 13 digs.
  • Keene senior outside hitter Sydney Johnson (Brentwood, N.H.) led the Owls with 16 kills on the night.
  • The Pilgrims are now 1-4 all-time against the Owls.
