HOW IT HAPPENED
Elmira was the first team to strike, as Daniel Dimon scored at 5:50 into the opening period. The Soaring Eagles controlled the majority of the action, as they outshot the Pilgrims 16-4.
Chance Gorman doubled the EC lead, as he scored just 15 seconds into the second period. With just over five minutes remaining in the middle frame, Nicholas Domitrovic pushed the Soaring Eagles' advantage to 3-0.
In the third period, New England College would end the shutout bid, as Trevor Momot scored off the Brendan White feed. White on a 5-on-3 advantage, David Novotny got the 'Grims within one, as Wyatt Andres and Conner Inger recorded the helpers. Domitrovic pushed the Elmira lead back to two goals, as he scored a short-handed goal, halfway through the period. The Soaring Eagles would add an empty-net goal with under a minute left in regulation to push their advantage to 5-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Andrew Kormos recorded 38 saves for NEC.
- EC outshot the Pilgrims 43-13 while having a slight advantage in the faceoff circle (34-32)
