Box Score 2 WENHAM, Mass. – The New England College Volleyball splits day two of the Gordon College Invitational. NEC falls to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 3-0 but then recovers with a 3-0 sweep of Gordon College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Match One – MIT 3, New England College 0
In the first set, neither team was able to take control, but with the score 10-8 MIT, the Engineers took control and picked up 15 of the next 21 points. The second set, was more of the same, as NEC had a 7-4 lead before MIT picked up 11 straight points. The Engineers closed out the set with a 25-14 final score.
In the third set, it was all MIT, as they capitalized on 12 Pilgrims' errors and won the set 25-9.
Match Two – New England College 3, Gordon College 0
In both teams' second match of the day, both teams were evenly matched. New England College took control following Amber Thi's kill with the score tied at 14-14. The Pilgrims were able to pull away down the stretch to take the first set 25-21.
In the second set, the 'Grims came out on the attack, as they took the first eight points. Gordon rallied to get within one at 16-15 but were unable to complete the comeback, as NEC took the second set 25-21.
In the third set, New England College led for the majority of the set. Gordon held the lead twice, as they held a 12-11 and a 13-12 advantage, but both were short-lived. Livia Elfering and Tatiana Sampson clinched the win for NEC, as the duo blocked a Valerine Nilan attack to end the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Amber Thi had a career-high 16 kills against Gordon.
- MIT maintains a 1-0 lead in the all-time series against NEC, while the Pilgrims leads Gordon 3-0 in the all-time series.
