'Grims Explode for Five Unanswered Goals in 5-2 Win vs Fitchburg State

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College Men's Ice Hockey team scored five unanswered goals, including four in the third period, to rally past Fitchburg State University, 5-2, in non-conference action, Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fitchburg State controlled the action from the early moments of the contest. The Falcons eventually broke through as Joshua Miller struck at 13:03 of the first period. FSU was able to double their lead halfway through the middle period, as Thomas Harty converted on the man advantage. New England College was able to get on the board with just under five minutes remaining as Alex LaPlante scored on a one-timer, from the slot. Anthony Cinato was able to find LaPlante from the corner, on the play.

New England College came out of the third period on the attack, as they were able to tie the game at the 9:41 marker. Cinato slid the puck back to Linus Udd Hellgren, who beat the Falcons netminder top blocker side. Less than three minutes later, Cinato was able to get a goal of his own. Udd Hellgren forced an offensive zone turnover, before slipping it to Cinato at the low circle, and wristed it, top glove side, giving NEC the 3-2 lead. 90 seconds later David Novotny joined in the scoring barrage, as he a cross-crease feed from Trevor Momot, and Novotny just roofed the puck in the empty cage. With under 10 seconds remaining in regulation, Momot was able to add an empty-net goal, giving the Pilgrims the 5-2 win.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Andrew Kormos recorded 27 shots for NEC.
  • Anthony Cinato led all scorers with three points (one goal, two assists)
  • New England College dominated the shot department (41-29), despite losing the faceoff battle (26-33)
  • Fitchburg went 1-for-3 on the man advantage, while the Pilgrims went 0-for-1.
  • NEC extends their all-time series to 12-4-1.
