CASTLETON, Vt.-The New England College men's lacrosse team picked up its fifth-straight win with a 10-4 victory over Castleton University in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Wednesday afternoon.
The win boosts NEC to 6-4 on the season and 3-0 in NAC play, while Castleton falls to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.
NEC LEADERS
The Pilgrims used a balanced attack in the win, as senior
Sean Largay (Norwalk, Conn.) and junior
Matt Richard (Weare, N.H.) both tallied two goals and an assist to lead the team. Freshman
Jacob Blanchette (Weare, N.H.) and senior
William Pendleton (Chalfont, Pa.) scored two goals each, while sophomores
Jarred Sausville (Cambridge, N.Y.) and
Daniel Medvetz (Henniker, N.H.) added single goals.
Sophomore Connor Fries (Barnstable, Mass.) scooped up a team-best five ground balls and also caused three turnovers.
CASTLETON LEADERS
The Spartans received a hat-trick from Sam Siegal. Jason Sedell also scored for Castleton in the loss. Sam Frackleton, Louis Alhage and Nik Rancourt all dished out assists.
Castleton's face-off specialist Joshua Gosselin won an impressive 14 of the 16 face-offs on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Pendleton scored the first goal of the game 3:03 into the first quarter to put NEC up 1-0. The Pilgrims added goals by Richard and Largay for a 3-0 lead before Castleton would get on the board with a man-up goal with 1:20 remaining in the first quarter.
The Pilgrims answered with four-straight goals in the second quarter including two, one by Sausville and one by Pendleton, in a span of 39 seconds for a 7-1 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the half. Castleton scored the final two goals of the half and trailed 7-3 at half.
NEC scored two of the three goals in the third quarter and netted the only goal of the fourth quarter to win their third-straight NAC contest.
