Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. Castleton State College's Zach Davidson (South Burlington, Vt.) would net four goals and dish out two assists leading the Spartans past the New England College Pilgrims 12-9 in men's lacrosse action Wednesday evening.
With the win the Spartans remain undefeated in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) improving to 6-0 and 9-5 overall. The loss is the first in the NAC for the Pilgrims who fall to 5-1 in conference and 10-3 overall.
Castleton would open the scoring just over two minutes into the game as Will Stuhler (Madison, N.J.) would net his 11th goal of the season assisted by Alex Denny (Adams Center, N.Y.). The Spartans would add two addition opening quarter goals as Zach Davidson (South Burlington, Vt.) would net both, including a goal with just one second remaining in the quarter.
Castleton's Alex Green (Braintree, Vt.) would strike first in the second quarter putting the Spartans up 4-0 scoring a man-up goal and Louis Alhage (New Milford, Conn.) would add another goal extending the lead to 5-0. NEC's
Skyler Saunders (Cambridge, N.Y.) would break the Pilgrim scoring drought at the 6:08 mark followed by a pair of goals by
Adam Shute (Calgary, Alberta) slicing the Castleton lead to 5-3.
Castleton would net the first three goals of the third quarter before NEC would turn on the offensive pressure and post four goals in the final minutes of the third cutting the lead to 8-7.
NEC would post the first two scores of the fourth quarter grabbing their first lead of the evening up 9-8 with 12:32 to play. Castleton would even the score at 9-9 with a goal by Taylor Swarter (Avondale, Pa.) at the 7:05 mark. The Spartans would then take advantage of a Pilgrim locked-in penalty as Swarter and Green would each score in a 30 second span giving Castleton the 11-9 lead. The Spartans would tack on a final score at the 3:16 mark eventually holding on for the 12-9 victory.
Castleton's Alex Green finished with three goals and two assists, while Taylor Swarter scored two goals and dished out two assists for the Spartans.
Leading the way for NEC was
Skyler Saunders who finished with a goal and four assists. NEC's
Pat Miles (Brampton, Ontario) led the defense with seven caused turnovers and five ground balls.
Picking up the win in net for Castleton was Peter Latulippe (Tyngsboro, Mass.) who posted 13 saves on the evening. In net for NEC was Chris Galluzo (New London, N.H.) who turned away 16 Spartan shots.
NEC returns to action on Saturday, April 19 when they travel to take on North Atlantic Conference opponent Lyndon State College. Castleton will hit the field again on Saturday, April 19 when they host conference foe Maine Maritime Academy.
