HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College men's lacrosse extended their winning streak to eight games beating the visiting Anna Maria College Amcats 18-6 Wednesday evening in Henniker.
With the win the Pilgrims improve to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The loss drops the Amcats to 4-8 overall and 1-6 in TCCC play.
The Pilgrims would jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening three minutes of play and extend their lead to 7-0 with 7:46 remaining in the opening quarter. The Amcats would get on the board at the 3:43 mark as Chris Summers (Long Valley, N.J.) would convert on an Anna Maria man-up opportunity.
NEC would continue to dominate much of the offense in the opening half as the Pilgrims would close out the opening quarter with two goals and then tack on seven unanswered second quarter goals to head into halftime up 16-1.
The Anna Maria offense would come alive in the third quarter as they would notch four consecutive goals, including two by Summers, cutting the NEC lead to 16-5. NEC would get back-to-back goals by
Ben Berry (Danvers, Mass.) and
Chris Collins (Murrieta, Calif.) to go up 18-5 with 4:19 remaining in regulation. Summers would close out the game with his fourth goal of the evening at the 3:11 mark in the fourth as NEC would eventually cruise to the 18-6 victory.
Leading the way for NEC was TCCC Rookie of the Week
Steve Parsons (Townsend, Mass.) who finished with four goals and two assists. NEC's
Ben Berry netted four goals and both
Brian Gillis (N. Vancouver, B.C) and
Chris Collins chipped in two goals each.
In addition to Summers, Anna Maria got scores by Mike Saulnier (Wrentham, Mass.) and Andrew Biscardi (Wantagh, N.Y.).
Picking up the win in net for NEC was Nick Aquaviva (Syracuse, N.Y.) who finished with two saves. Seeing the bulk of the time in net for Anna Maria was Zach Zipse (Upton, Mass.) who recorded one save. Anna Maria's Andrew Ellis (Fitchburg, Mass.) stopped eight Pilgrim shots.
NEC returns to action on Saturday, April 9 when they travel to take on nationally ranked Endicott College. Anna Maria will take the field on Saturday, April 9 when they host TCCC foe University of New England.
