BALTIC, Conn. - The New England College men's golf team tied for fourth place amongst a strong field of nine teams competing at the Eastern Connecticut State Invitational on Monday at the Mohegan Sun Golf Course in Baltic, Connecticut.
The Pilgrims finished with a team total of +23, tying with WestConn and finishing seven strokes behind Southern Maine who placed third. AIC finished second at +5 while the hosting Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State took first at +1.
NEC sophomore Emil Elias (Ekerö, Sweden) continued his strong play as the back-to-back GNAC Golfer of the Week shot a 72 (+1) while posting five bogeys and four birdies. Elias tied for seventh overall out of the 45-player field, four strokes behind first place.
Senior Cameron Sheedy (Nashua, N.H.) finished tied for 12th, individually, scoring a 75 (+4). He excelled on the back nine, drilling a pair of birdies which were good enough for a 35 (-1) on the second half of the course.
The team totaled 12 birdies on the day, three of which came from freshman Edouard Belval-Turmel (Quebec, Canada) who ranked tied for 24th overall with a 79 (+8). Finishing tied for 32nd overall, juniors Bryce Sturm (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and Vesse-Wincent Lampen (Espoo, Finland) had matching round scores of 81 (+10)
The 'Grims are back in action on Saturday, September 19th, for day one of the Castleton Invitational in Rutland, Vermont where play begins at 11:00 AM. Round two follows suit on Sunday, September 20th.
