Men's Golf Finishes Third at GNAC Championships

EAST MONTPELIER, V.T. - The New England College men's golf team finished third at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships this afternoon at the Country Club of Barre.

The Pilgrims finished with a two-day team total of 78-over-par 646 (312-334). Emmanuel College claimed the GNAC Championship with a 56-over-par 624 (312-312), while host Norwich University finished runner-up with a 58-over-par 626 (314-312).

Senior Cameron Sheedy (Nashua, N.H.) led the Pilgrims, finishing fifth overall with a 15-over-par 157 (76-81). Sheedy opened the second round with back-to-back double bogeys before responding with birdies on the seventh and eighth holes to card a 3-over-par 38 on the front nine. He finished the round with eight pars.

Sophomore Emil Elias (Ekerö, Sweden) finished tied for ninth overall after shooting a 12-over-par 83 in the second round, giving him a two-day total of 159. Elias recorded a birdie on the third hole and seven pars during the final round.

Freshman Edouard Belval-Turmel (Quebec, Canada) shot a 13-over-par 84 in the second round, highlighted by a birdie on the opening hole. He finished the championship in 13th place with a two-day total of 163.

Junior Vesse-Wincent Lampen (Espoo, Finland) carded an 89 in the final round to finish tied for 19th with a two-day total of 169.

Sophomore Aiden Boule (Concord, N.H.) shot an 86 in the second round and finished tied for 23rd overall.

Norwich's Cooper Bertrand successfully defended his individual championship title in a dramatic finish. Bertrand held off Emmanuel's Ryan Brunet, who entered the final hole leading the individual field before a double bogey on the 18th dropped him to second.

As a team, the Pilgrims led the championship with a 3.42 average on par-3 holes and recorded a tournament-best 13 birdies over the two rounds.
