Field Hockey's Jones Named GNAC Defense Player of the Week

HENNIKER, N.H. - Senior Neila Jones (Rawley, Mass.) of the New England College field hockey team was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Defense Player of the Week for the week ending on October 25th.

Jones made two crucial back-to-back defensive saves in the second period against Colby-Sawyer. The first save was a shot taken by Brooke Farquar right in front of the goal where Neila used her whole body to help defend the goal. Then about two minutes later, Jones was able to make another defensive stop after a Chargers penalty corner, with a shot by Abby Olden just inside the shooting circle Neila came up big with lowering her stick and blocking the shot rewarding the Pilgrims with possession and going down the field to get a chance to score.

The senior has seen action in 13 games so far this season starting in all 13 of them. These were Jones' first defensive saves recorded in her collegiate career.

The 'Grims finish up the regular season on Tuesday, when they travel #21 Endicott for a 7 p.m. game.  They will open the GNAC Tournament in the 5th seed at St. Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday at 11 a.m.
