Field Hockey Shuts Out Regis in 5-0 Road Victory

Box Score

WESTON, Mass. – New England College field hockey closed out its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule on Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 road victory over Regis College, earning its seventh shutout win of the season and finishing conference play with a 5-4 (.556) record.

Senior Amy Philbin (Long Island, N.Y.) made her fifth start of the season, earning her third win after facing just one shot and making the save to record the shutout.

The Pilgrims opened the scoring in the first period off their fourth penalty corner of the game. Sophomore Mary Kelley (Cumberland, R.I.) inserted the ball to senior Kameryn Mazzulli (Waterford, Conn.), who sent a long pass to freshman Claudia Dustin (Weare, N.H.). Positioned just inside the shooting arc, Dustin found the back of the cage for her first collegiate goal to give NEC a 1-0 lead. Later in the period, senior Conley Ladabouche (Barre, Vt.) put two consecutive shots on goal, both of which were saved by the Pride's goalkeeper, to keep the lead at one.

NEC's defense held Regis to just one shot in the opening period, while the Pilgrims continued to pressure the Pride offensively. NEC recorded five shots on goal in the second period but entered halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

Kelley led the Pilgrims with six shots on goal and extended their lead with just under three minutes remaining in the third period. After gaining possession near midfield, Kelley carried the ball into the shooting arc and fired a shot into the back of the cage for her fifth goal of the season, making it 2-0. Senior Adelaide Kelly (Rockport, Maine) added to the lead in the 53rd minute, finding the back of the cage for her ninth goal of the season to tie for the team's season lead. Kelley struck again with less than three minutes remaining, capitalizing on a rebound after a save by Regis goalkeeper Allayna Martone to complete her second goal of the game and put NEC ahead 4-0.

The Pilgrims capped off the scoring with 2:20 remaining following another penalty corner. Senior Leah Bohling (Chesapeake, Va.) found senior Kylee Henriquez (Methuen, Mass.), who battled to put the ball in the cage for her eighth goal of the season. The assist marked Bohling's first of the year, sealing the 5-0 victory.

NEC dominated offensively, outshooting Regis 21-1 in shots on goal. Kelley led all players with six shots on goal, while Kelly and Henriquez each recorded three. Ladabouche, Mazzulli, and Bohling added two shots on goal apiece.

The Pilgrims will close out the regular season on the road against Endicott on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
