HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College field hockey team returned to the win column on Youth Field Hockey Day, defeating the University of Maine at Farmington, 1-0.
The lone goal of the game came in the 13th minute when sophomore Mary Kelley (Cumberland, R.I.) inserted a penalty corner to senior Adelaide Kelly (Rockport, Maine), who passed to senior Kacey McClay (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) for her ninth goal of the season.
In the second period, the Beavers earned their lone penalty corner opportunity, but were unable to capitalize. In the final nine minutes of the period, the Pilgrims recorded four shots, including two from freshman Molly Goodwin (Guilford, Maine).
At halftime, NEC held a 10-1 advantage in shots. In the third period, UMaine-Farmington's Gabby Vincentsen recorded the Beavers' second shot of the game, which hit the post. Kelley and senior Kameryn Mazzulli (Waterford, Conn.) responded with back-to-back shots, but both were saved by the Beavers' goalkeeper.
In the final period, Goodwin looked to extend the Pilgrims' lead, recording three shots but was unable to find the back of the net.
Goodwin and Mazzulli each finished with two shots on goal, while senior Annie Raduazzo (Amherst, N.H.) earned her fifth win and second shutout of the season.
The Pilgrims hit the road on Wednesday, October 14, traveling to Rivier for a 6 p.m. start.
