FROSTBURG, Md. – The New England College women's wrestling team finished ninth place out of 37 teams at the Bobcat Open on Saturday at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland.
TOP 'GRIMS
- Junior Karime Camarena-Tejeda (Miami, Fla.) had two byes to start her run before falling to Zoey Lints of Elmira College in a pin in 26 seconds. She fell to Tayla Tildsley of Sacred Heart by pin in 1:28 to wrap her day.
- Freshman Ashley Dehney (Pelham, N.C.) received a bye in the first round before moving on to the next round over Bluefield State's Rilei Belcher by medical forfeit. She fell by tech fall to Violette Lasure by technical fall by a score of 10-0.
- Freshman Jaclyn Dehney (Pelham, N.C.) pinned Marymount's Ainsley Mate in 34 seconds to advance to the round of 16. She then pinned Mckinley Jovanovic in 49 seconds to advance to the quarterfinals. Dehney pinned Brianna Holcomb of hosting Frostburg State in 49 seconds. She clinched a finals berth with a pin over Presbyterian's Laura Ruiz Diaz in a 33 second pin. Dehney completed her 1st place run with a pin in 4:22 over Anna Dicugno of King University.
- Sophomore Olivia Delegas (Andover, Mass.) dropped her opening round match by a 16-6 tech fall to Jewelysa Funakoshi of Emmanuel University. After a bye in the first consolation round, she took down teammate Morgan Gora in a 10-0 tech fall victory. She then fell to Makenna Dolt of Southern Virgina by pin in 2:07.
- Freshman Morgan Gora (Hudson, N.H.) fell to Betty Cherry of Emmanuel by pin in 1:07. She lost her second match to teammate Olivia Delegas in a 10-0 technical fall.
- Freshman Orla King (Woburn, Mass.) fell in the first round to Southern Virgina's Makenna Dolt by tech fall by the score of 10-0. After earning a bye in the first consolation round, King fell to Reagan Riddick of Presbyterian by a 10-0 tech fall.
- Freshman Madeline Li (Andover, Mass.) took down Felician's Karley Perrini 13-3 in a tech fall victory to advance to the quarterfinal. In that round, she fell to King University's Melanie Mendoza by pin in 55 seconds to move into the consolation bracket. Li took down Alana Durham from Alvernia by fall in 48 seconds the following round. She then fell to Emmanuel's Dinayah Vazquez by pin in 1:01.
