ELMIRA, N.Y. - New England College Women's Wrestling competed in day one of the NCAA Regionals hosted by Elmira College in Elmira, New York at the LECOM Event Center.
Sophomore Ashley Dehney (Pelham, N.H.), freshman Fenna Clover van der Velden (Stony Brook, N.Y.), sophomore Jaclyn Dehney (Pelham, N.H.), senior Karime Camarena-Tejeda (Miami, Fla.), freshman Lilie Normandie (Lowell, Mass.), and sophomore Madeline Li (Andover, Mass.) advanced to the second day of the tournament.
J. Dehney, making her return after over two months, received a first-round bye and pinned her way to the regional final to take on Tanya Teneva, who she has gone 2-0 against this season.
Normandie received a first-round bye and went 2-1 in her next three matches to reach the third-place match.
A. Dehney picked up a quick pin before falling in the second round. Two consecutive wins in the consolation rounds were enough to get her into the fifth-place match on day two.
After receiving a bye in the first round and falling in the second, Van der Velden used two wins in the consolation rounds to reach the consi-semis where she took a loss to send her to the fifth-place match.
Camarena-Tejeda received a bye in the first round before going 2-2 in her next four matches to advance to the fifth-place match.
Li, after receiving a bye in the first round and winning her second-round match, dropped her next two to face off for fifth place in day two.
Freshman Marisol Almanzar (Lawrence, Mass.) fell in her first-round matchup before picking up two consecutive wins in the consolation rounds. After falling in the third consolation round, her season ended.
J. Dehney and Normandie will look to punch their ticket to the first-ever NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships in day two.
