ELMIRA, N.Y. - Six Pilgrims advanced to day two of the NCAA Women's Wrestling Regionals where sophomore Jaclyn Dehney (Pelham, N.H.) punched her ticket to the first-ever NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships with a first-place finish in the regional championships.
Dehney, needed only two minutes and 42 seconds on the mat to pin her way to the top of the podium. After pinning D'Youville's Olivia Lapoint in :21 and Wilkes' Milly Hughes in :27, Dehney battled Western New England's Tanya Teneva in the Region 1 Championship match. A quick takedown 24 seconds into the match set the tone for Dehney to get two more and pin Teneva in 1:54.
Freshman Lilie Normandie (Lowell, Mass.), after going 2-1 after a first-round bye in day one, met Felician's Emily Doolittle in the third-place match where she fell by technical fall to finish in fourth place in region one.
Senior Karime Camarena-Tejeda (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore Madeline Li (Andover, Mass.) both picked up wins to place fifth in the region.
Sophomore Ashley Dehney (Pelham, N.H.) and freshman Fenna Clover van der Velden (Stony Brook, N.Y.) each finished in sixth place
Dehney will head to Coralville, Iowa to compete in the first-ever NCAA Championships starting on March 5.
