HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's basketball team lost against the visiting University of Saint Joseph on Tuesday at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
THE BASICS

TURNING POINTS
- Within 15 seconds, the Blue Jays opened the scoring with a layup from Nevaeh Yorke, assisted by Maya Slisz. Senior forward Gabriella Matlock (Tulare, Calif.) grabbed two defensive rebounds and made a layup within the next minute to get the Pilgrims on the board. NEC jumped out to an early lead as junior forward Abigail Lacy (Arroyo Grande, Calif.) made a layup. The Blue jays scored ten straight points to get ahead 12-4. The teams would trade punches as USJ took a 15-8 lead into the second quarter.
- Lacy tried to get the Grims back into the game with five quick points in 80 seconds to cut the Blue Jays lead to two. USJ's Jordan Ouellette made two shots to extend the lead to six. Janai Oliver joined the scoring to push the Blue Jays ahead by eight. Lacy and Jelly Frigo traded threes before USJ jumped out to a ten-point lead. Sophomore forward Camryn Lewis (Taunton, Mass.) and sophomore guard Bailey Burke (New Bedford, Mass.) combined for six points to cut the lead to four. The Blue Jays closed out the half on a 5-2 run to take a 33-26 lead into the break.
- In the first four minutes of the third quarter, the Pilgrims cut the seven-point deficit to two with seven points from Burke and a three-pointer from senior guard Amya Moss (Norfolk, Va.). After trading threes and a free throw made from Matlock, Moss made a layup to give the Pilgrims their first lead since the 2-0 start. The Blue Jays closed out the third on a 4-2 run to take a one-point lead into the final ten minutes.
- The battle would continue as the two teams traded blows, leading to a 50-50 tie with 7:47 left to go in the game. It took a minute and a half for either team to make a basket. Junior guard Mackenzie McDonald (Boscawen, N.H.) hit a jumper with 6:14 to go to put the Pilgrims up by two. A layup from Matlock and two made free throws brought the lead to six before the Blue Jays went on a 21-8 run to close out the game and secure the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Pilgrims shot 33% from the field as the Blue Jays had the upper hand in that category with 42%. Both teams made six three-pointers as the Pilgrims doubled USJ's attempts to shoot 27% from behind the arc.
- Despite struggling from the field, the Pilgrims made all but two of their free throws to the Blue Jays' seven misses from the line.
- NEC dominated the offensive boards as they grabbed 19 offensive rebounds, with 26 on the defensive end.
- Lacy led the Pilgrims with 20 points, with Lewis (11), Burke (9), and junior guard Ajayah Lively (Victorville, Calif.) following with seven.
- Lively led the game with eight rebounds, with Matlock (5), Lewis (5), and Lacy (5) finishing behind her.
- Senior guard Isyss Scott (Bakersfield, Calif.) led the game with four steals with Lively's three falling just behind.
