HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's volleyball team won a closely contested matchup in four sets against the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies on Tuesday at Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pilgrims got off to a hot start with three straight points with the help of two kills from junior outside hitter Lily-Anne Heywood (Derry, N.H.), who got four of her five total kills in the first set.
- The NEC went up 24-14 in the first set when a rally was started by attack errors to push the Huskies back within three points in the set.
- The third set went back-and-forth with the biggest lead reaching seven midways throughout the set with six aces from the Pilgrims.
- The biggest run for the Pilgrims was an 11-point rally as junior defensive specialist Kristina Cardello (Peabody, Mass.) recorded two of her three aces in the fourth set to go from down 4-1 to going up 12-4. NEC ended up taking the third set by a scored of 25-20 to go up two sets to one.
- The fourth set was close all the way to the end, with the 'Grims managing to pull out the narrow 25-23 win. Sophomore right-side hitter Maeve Amarosa (Madbury, N.H.) recorded two kills in the fourth set to help push the Pilgrims to victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Senior outside hitter Savannah Pilialoha (Waipahu, Hawaii) recorded a team-high 11 kills in the win.
- The Pilgrims recorded 11 service aces in the victory to push the team's season total to 98.
UP NEXT
- NEC is back on the court on Saturday when they host a tri-match with visiting Lasell University and Anna Maria College. The Pilgrims take on Lasell at 11 PM and follow it up with Anna Maria at 3 PM.
- USM plays their next game at Eastern Connecticut State University to compete in a tri-match on Saturday with matchups against the Warriors and the SUNY Maritime Privateers at noon and 2 PM.
