RUTLAND, Vt. - The New England College men's golf team took first place out of seven teams at the Vermont State University - Castleton Invitational with the two-day event taking place at the Rutland Country Club on Saturday and Sunday in Rutland, Vermont. After the first day of competition, the 'Grims held a three-stroke lead over Clarkson University, with a team score of 302. NEC expanded its lead on day two – ultimately winning the event by ten strokes over the rest of the field.
TOP 'GRIMS
- Senior Timothy Carlson (Albany, N.Y.) led the team with a +7 across the two days to finish tied for second place, individually. After a +7 on Saturday, his E score on Sunday was the best single day performance of all players this weekend.
- After day one, freshman Ryan Waring (Gilmanton, N.H.) tied for the best score of the field with a 73 (+3) through 18 holes. He closed out the two-day event with a +9 to finish fourth overall.
- Junior Graham Hassan (Pinckney, Mich.) posted a +16 which was good for a seventh overall finish.
- NEC freshman Bryce Sturm (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) put up a +17 to finish just behind Hassan in eighth place.
- Freshman Vesse-Wincent Lampen (Espoo, Finland) rounded out the 'Grims team in 13th overall place with a +21.
