HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College sophomore midfielder Santiago Sanchez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) of the NEC men's soccer team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for this past week ending on Sunday, September 15th.
Sanchez helped lead the team to a 2-0-1 record this week. On Tuesday, Sanchez scored the team's lone goal against Fitchburg State to force a 1-1 tie. On Saturday, Sanchez scored the team's first goal of the game and was credited with the assist on the second, playing a huge role in a 2-0 win over conference foe Mitchell College. A quick turnaround on Sunday versus Lesley University did not slow Sanchez down, as the sophomore scored his third goal in as many games – once again helping the lead the team to another win.
Sanchez totaled seven points across the three games this week, acting as a major driving force on offense for the 'Grims. "Santiago had a great week and played a big role in all three games," said head coach Pat Laughlin. "He's having a strong start to the season." Sanchez' three goals on the season puts him in a first-place tie among all players in the GNAC.
