FRANLIN, Mass. - The New England College men's soccer team suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Dean College on Friday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
Senior goalkeeper Matt Guzman (San Bernardino, Calif.) turned aside several attempts from the Bulldogs in the opening half. Junior Luis Davila (Hudson, N.H.) and sophomore Amit Solomon (Wilton, Conn.) each tested Dean goalkeeper Xavier Young late in the half, but both shots were denied. The Bulldogs broke through in the 28th minute, finding the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Pilgrims continued to search for the equalizer after the break, with graduate Anthony Aguiar (Gilford, N.H.) putting a shot on frame that was stopped by Bulldogs goalie Ryan Davis. Dean looked to extend its advantage, but senior goalkeeper Kyle Butts (Lee, N.H.) made the save. Senior Jack LaBroad (East Kingston, N.H.) looked to put NEC on the board late, but his attempt was blocked by the Bulldogs' defense. Dean continued to threaten in search of an insurance goal, but their remaining attempts sailed wide as the Bulldogs picked up the 1-0 victory.
Guzman recorded five saves in 55 minutes of action, while Butts added two saves in relief.
The 'Grims close out the regular season on Tuesday, October 27th, welcoming GNAC foe Norwich University to Don Melander Field for a 4:00 PM matchup.
