Pilgrims Fall on Senior Day to Falcons

HENNIKER, N.H.  - The New England College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon. Prior to kickoff, the Pilgrims honored their 11 graduating seniors: Kyle Butts (Lee, N.H.), Jackson Souther (Weare, N.H.), Nicholas Jurrissen (Madbury, N.H.), Erik Corbin (Marlborough, Mass.), Anthony Aguiar (Gilford, N.H.), Parker Clark (Pittsfield, N.H.), Chase Gurtowsky (Torrington, Conn.), Jack LaBroad (East Kingston, N.H.), Lukas Tate (South Jordan, Utah), Frederick Rosen (Wareham, Mass.), and Matt Guzman (San Bernardino, Calif.).

The Falcons applied early pressure, firing back-to-back shots that were stopped by Guzman. The Pilgrims responded with chances of their own, as a shot from sophomore Lukas McGuire (Lunenburg, Mass.) was blocked by the AMC defense before another attempt from LaBroad was saved by Falcons goalkeeper Patrick Cavalieri. AMC broke through late in the half, as Kalonji Cowan found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Falcons extended their lead six minutes into the second half before adding a third goal shortly afterward. NEC continued to compete defensively, with Tate making several key stops in net. With six minutes remaining, the 'Grims were awarded a penalty kick, and Corbin converted to get the Pilgrims on the scoreboard. Tate continued to make saves as the Falcons pressed in the closing minutes, but AMC held on to secure the 3-1 victory.

Guzman recorded five saves in the opening half, while Tate added six saves in the second half.

The 'Grims travel to Nashua, N.H. on Wednesday to face Rivier University at 6:00 PM on Joanne Merrill Field.
