THE BASICS
Score: Regis 5, New England College 13
Records: Pilgrims 1-5, 1-1 GNAC | Pride 4-2, 0-2 GNAC
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pilgrims, looking for their first win of the season, struck first when NEC senior midfielder Joey Olsen (Mansfield, Mass.) took a pass from senior midfielder Thomas Doe (Windham, N.H.) and finished for his third goal of the season with 12:05 to go in the first quarter.
- With 8:12 left in the opening quarter, NEC sophomore long-stick midfielder Jackson Kain (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) found junior attacker Henri Pfeifle (Darien, Conn.) right in front of the Regis goal. The junior-transfer turned and scored his team-leading 16th goal of the season as the 'Grims went up 2-0. That score would hold up going into the second quarter.
- The Pride got on the board with 12:52 remaining in the second when Regis sophomore midfielder Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine) found junior attacker Anthony Marsella (Johnston, R.I.) behind the defense and he would finish to pull the visitors to within one.
- Then with 10:06 to go in the first half, Regis senior midfielder Connor Deveau (Harwichport, Mass.) scored his fifth goal of the season to tie it up at 2-2.
- With 5:52 left in the second, Olsen got the lead back for the 'Grims, blasting a shot past the defense from long-range for his second goal of the game and the fourth of the season to put the hosts up 3-2.
- Regis would tie it up again with 2:05 remaining in the half when Klein took it in himself for his ninth goal of the season, knotting it up at 3-3.
- Just 50 seconds later, New England College would reclaim the lead off of a goal from junior attacker Thomas Norton (Mansfield, Mass.), his sixth of the season. The Pilgrims went into halftime leading 4-3.
- Just 1:05 into the third quarter, the 'Grims picked up a much-needed insurance goal when Norton found sophomore midfielder Nathan Hawkins (Salisbury, N.H.) for the second-year player's third goal of the season, going up 5-3. That opened the floodgates for the Pilgrims, as Doe and senior face-off specialist Evan Zonderman (Dracut, Mass.) followed that up with goals of their own, putting NEC up 7-3 with 12:48 left in the third.
- With 6:43 left in the third, a series of penalties against NEC gave Regis a golden opportunity to get back into the game with a two-man advantage. The Pilgrims rode that out, but Klein was still able to find the back of the net with 5:23 to go, making it a three-goal game.
- With 41.9 seconds left in the third period and a man-up advantage, Pfeifle found the back of the Regis net for the second time of the night, assisted by senior attacker Matt Daley (Plymouth, Mass.). Then with 2.4 ticks to go, Kain scored his second goal of the season with an assist to Norton. NEC went into the final quarter up 9-4.
- The action was intense in the fourth quarter, as flags started flying just two seconds in. The Pilgrims weathered the storm and Daley scored his ninth goal of the season with 12:07 left in the game, assisted by Pfeifle. Unsatisfied with a six-goal lead, Pfeifle scored himself with 7:39 remaining, completing the hat trick as NEC went up 11-4. With 5:25 to go, Doe made it 12-4 off a pass from Pfeifle, and the Pride would never challenge again.
