THE BASICS
Score:                    New England College 3, MIT 16
Records:               Pilgrims 1-10 | Engineers 6-3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pilgrims struck first in the top of the first when NEC senior first baseman Brett Patnode (Weare, N.H.) came to the plate with two runners on and reached on an RBI fielder's choice, plating junior shortstop Brady Philibotte (Weare, N.H.) as the visitors went ahead 1-0.
  • Tied 1-1 in the top of the third, NEC senior third baseman Johnny Cannavo (Weymouth, Mass.) came to the plate with one out and two on, hitting an RBI single to right field to drive in Philibotte for the shortstop's second run of the day.
  • Down 3-2 in the top of the fifth, it was against Cannavo sparking the 'Grims' offense, this time with an RBI groundout that saw graduate second baseman Bryce Worth (Southington, Conn.) cross home plate, tying the game up.
  • From the bottom of the fifth onward, however, it was all Engineers, as MIT scored five runs in the fifth, six in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
  • Patnode led the Pilgrims, going three-for-for on the day, with a double and an RBI. Philibotte finished two-for-four with two runs scored and a double.
  • MIT junior shortstop Reed Tubbs (Pflugerville, Tex.) finished the day with three hits, a home run and four runs batted in to lead the Engineers. Sophomore left fielder Eitan Moore (Jerusalem, Israel) had two hits and three RBI.
