Mitchell Too Much for Men’s Basketball

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's basketball team lost 71-50 to visiting Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action in a rematch of last year's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship finals.

TURNING POINTS
  • The Pilgrims were within five at halftime with a score of 31-26, but the Mariners opened the second half with a 20-3 run capped off with a three-pointer from Mitchell junior guard Jaylyn Clardy (Pensacola. Fla.) with 12:15 to go in the game. NEC was unable to cut it back to within single-digits for the rest of the contest.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Clardy led the Mariners with 20 points, shooting 50 percent from behind the arc.
  • NEC junior guard Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) led the Pilgrims with 12 points and five rebounds, shooting five-of-nine from the floor.
  • Mitchell freshman guard Elijah Miller (Ellington, Conn.) posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
  • NEC graduate guard Jayden McGrew (Garland, Tex.) contributed 12 points while dishing out four assists on the day.
  • Mitchell junior forward Wilton Causey (Worcester, Mass.) finished with 16 points and eight boards.
  • NEC graduate guard Nick Gomeau (Enfield, Conn.) came off the bench to score ten points.
  • NEC sophomore guard Junior Efosa (Haverhill, Mass.) pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds with seven points.
  • Three-point shooting provided with the Mariners with the advantage, as they shot 6-of-12 from behind the arc, compared to 1-of-8 from the Pilgrims.
