Men's Basketball Comes Up Short to Badgers

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's basketball team came up short against visiting Vermont State University-Johnson on Tuesday at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action.  

THE BASICS 
Score: Vermont State University-Johnson: 0, New England College: 0 
Records: Badgers: 2-8, 0-1 NAC | Pilgrims: 1-8, 0-0 GNAC 

TURNING POINTS 

  • The game started out even as the teams traded shots in the first couple minutes as sophomore center Aiden MacLeod (Wilmington, Mass.) scored the first four points for the Pilgrims. After going scoreless for the next three minutes, freshman forward Ryan Cuvier (Tewksbury, Mass.) made a layup to make it a three-point game. Freshman guard Theisen Lee (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored four points within 35 seconds to make it 14-13. At the 8:40 mark of the first half, Lee made a layup to tie it up at 21. Lee and freshman guard Josh Robie (Bethlehem, N.H.) combined for the final 16 points of the half for the Pilgrims. The 'Grims went into the half with a three-point lead, up 37-34. 
  • The Pilgrims kept the lead until there was 16:56 remaining in the game when Mathew Carter made a layup to put the Badgers up one. After a made free throw and a three-pointer from Carter, the Badgers lead was up to three. The Pilgrims fought back as junior guard Kenray Emadamerho (Manchester, N.H.) made a layup to make it a one-possession game. David Greer and Carter made baskets as the VTSU-Johnson lead went up to six. Cuvier made two free throws and a layup as the Pilgrims fought to get the lead down to two. Within 35 seconds Raymond Baka made two baskets to extend the lead to six. With 6:43 left to go, the Badgers lead was up to ten. The Pilgrims were never able to get it closer than a four-point deficit as time expired. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Carter led the game with 30 points, with Baka following with 24. Lee led the Pilgrims with 17, with senior guard Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) following him with 11. 
  • Baka, Lee, and graduate guard Nick Gomeau (Enfield, Conn.) all tied to lead the game with three assists. 
  • Baka led the game with 11 rebounds, with Cuvier leading the Pilgrims with 6. 
  • Williams and MacLeod tied to lead the Pilgrims with three blocks each, with Baka leading the game with five. 

UP NEXT 

  • Up next for NEC, the team is back in Bridges Gym as they host Curry College on December 30th at 2:00 PM in their final game before the new year. 
  • The Badgers are back in action on Friday as they host the Moose of University of Maine-Augusta.
