Women’s Basketball Opens Season at Terrier Classic

WATERVILLE, Maine – The New England College women's basketball team opened their 2024-2025 season at the Terrier Classic hosted by Thomas College on Saturday evening at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium in Waterville, Maine, losing 68-48 to the Rams of Suffolk University.

TURNING POINTS
  • Trailing by nine at halftime, the Pilgrims pulled to within four with 6:34 left in the third quarter after a fastbreak jumper in the paint by NEC junior forward Abigail Lacy (Arroyo Grande, Calif.), playing in her first career game for the 'Grims. But the Rams closed out the quarter with a 10-3 run then pulled away in the fourth quarter.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Shooting proved decisive in the contest, as the Rams outshot the Pilgrims 42.9 percent to 28.1 percent.
  • NEC senior forward Gabriella Matlock (Tulare, Calif.) led the 'Grims with nine points and eight rebounds.
  • Suffolk junior guard Colby Guinta (Manchester, N.H.) led all scorers with 17 points for the Rams, shooting seven-of-eleven from the floor.
  • NEC junior guard Mackenzie McDonald (Boscawen, N.H.) finished with seven points and five rebounds while freshman forward Mary Drakes (Hot Springs, Ark.) added six points and five boards in her first collegiate game.
  • Suffolk graduate forward Amanda DeAngelis (Londonderry, N.H.) posted a double-double with 15 points and ten boards.
UP NEXT
  • Up next for NEC, the team concludes their run at the Terrier Classic when they play host Thomas College on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
  • Suffolk plays Saint Joseph's College of Maine in their next contest, that coming at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday in Waterville.
