Men’s Basketball Edged by Norwich in Opener

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's basketball team opened their 2024-2025 season with a 71-63 loss to visiting Norwich University on Friday evening at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action against a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent.

TURNING POINTS
  • The Pilgrims led by as much as eleven, holding the advantage for most of the game. But the Cadets would chip away, taking their first lead of the game with 3:34 to go off a layup from Norwich senior guard Kohlby Murray (Fair Haven, Vt.) and would close out the game on a 14-3 run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC senior guard Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) led the Pilgrims with 11 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Jasen Stovall (Tampa, Fla.) taking the floor with the 'Grims for the first time since his 2022-2023 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Year award-winning season, also finished with 11 points.
  • Norwich senior forward Owen Liss (West Suffield, Conn.) led all players with 18 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
  • NEC freshman guard Theisen Lee (Cincinnati, Ohio) posted a strong first showing for the Pilgrims, scoring nine points with seven rebounds and four assists.
  • Norwich graduate guard Jalen Olivero (Holyoke, Mass.) posted 15 points with six assists and six rebounds.
  • The 'Grims stayed in the game with superior three-point shooting, going 7-of-13 from behind the arc compared to 0-of-17 for the Cadets.

  • Up next for NEC, the team travels to Dean College on Monday for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game against the Bulldogs.
