HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College freshman Ryan Waring (Gilmanton, N.H.) of the NEC men's golf team has been named the Male Pilgrim of the Month for October of 2024 in an announcement by the Department of Athletics on Tuesday afternoon.
Waring led the way for the 'Grims at the GNAC Men's Golf Championships, helping the team to a first-place finish to win by 26 strokes over the rest of the field. It was the team's second consecutive GNAC Championship and earned the Pilgrims an automatic qualifier to the 2025 Division III NCAA tournament in Penfield, New York, next May.
Waring placed first among all golfers across the two-day competition, earning GNAC Player of the Year and GNAC All-Conference First Team honors. He finished at +9 overall, one stroke ahead of teammate Timothy Carlson (Albany, N.Y.). Waring's 72 (+2) on Day 2 was the best single-day score of the tournament and his best of the season.
"Ryan was a great addition for us this fall and he showed his steadiness and course knowledge of concord country club," said head coach Travis Banga. "It's a huge honor for Ryan to win player and rookie of year, but more importantly the impact he had to help us reach our goal of GNAC champions!"
