EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The New England College women's wrestling team competed at the East Stroudsburg Open on Sunday, November 3rd, at the Koehler Fieldhouse in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The team sent three wrestlers as the young group picked up some wins in the group's first meet of the season.
TOP 'GRIMS
- NEC freshman Madeline Li (Andover, Mass.) competed in the 117-pound weight class in her first collegiate meet. The first-year's first matchup came against Alvernia University's Alana Durham, and Li dominated to the tune of an 11-0 win by VSU. Li's second-round matchup was a 0-6 loss by pinfall to Sacred Heart's Samantha Yap to set up a consolation second round match against Sacred Heart's Tatiana Walker. The match was knotted at 4-4 before Walker pinned Li to win by VFA.
- Freshman Orla King (Woburn, Mass.) received a first-round bye at the 124-pound weight class. In the second round, King fell by pinfall to Frostburg State's Jada Fowler. In the consolation, King faced off against Sabrina Alvarez of McDaniel College, and King advanced past Alvarez with a win by pinfall (8-2). King closed out her first competition with a loss to Gannon University's Hannah McCarley in the third round of the consolation bracket.
- Sophomore Olivia Delegas (Andover, Mass.) joined King with a bye into the second round of the 124-pount bracket. Delegas was defeated in the second round by Lehigh's Shannon Govern by way of pinfall. In the consolation, Delegas met fellow Lehigh Mountain Hawk Avery Hines and fell by tech fall.
