GNAC Release
HENNIKER, N.H. - Junior goalkeeper Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.) of the New England College field hockey team has been voted the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2024 season as voted on by conference coaches in an announcement by the GNAC on Tuesday afternoon.
Anderson helped lead the team to the #2 seed in the GNAC tournament with a regular season record of 15-3 and going 10-2 in conference play. She was awarded GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week twice this season (Sept. 15th, Nov. 3rd) and has ultimately been honored as the top goalkeeper in the GNAC this season.
Anderson had a phenomenal year in net for the 'Grims, setting career-bests in save percentage, goals-against average, and wins. Her .849 save percentage was the best in the GNAC, sitting .034 above the second-best, and ranked 7th in all of Division-III. This mark was fifty percentage points higher than her previous career-high set last season. Anderson's 0.77 goals-against average was also a career-best and was the lowest GAA among qualified players in the conference. This ranked 11th best in all of Division-III. Anderson's 16 wins not only set a personal-best but tied a school record that had last been achieved in 2008. The junior also ended the season with five shutouts.
"Mak consistently showcased her superior shot-stopping abilities, exemplary decision-making, and a strong presence in the circle throughout the 2024 season," said head coach Carly Sweeney. "She excelled in making crucial saves under pressure and highly contributed to the overall success of the team's defense by continuously communicating effectively with her teammates. As a team, we are so proud to have the Goalkeeper of the Year honor bestowed on one of our very own."
