Anderson Named Female Pilgrim of the Month for September

HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College junior goalkeeper Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.) of the NEC field hockey team has been named the Female Pilgrim of the Month for September of 2024 in an announcement by the Department of Athletics on Wednesday morning.

Anderson started in goal for all eight games in September for the 'Grims, helping lead the team to a 7-1 record and an unblemished 3-0 record in conference play. The junior allowed just five goals across the eight games and made 39 saves – good for a .886 save percentage on the month – while contributing to four shutouts.

On the season, Anderson currently leads the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with a .867 save percentage, more than 40 percentage points better than the next highest. Anderson ranks second in the conference in goals-against average at 0.79. She also earned GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the week ending on September 15th.

"Mak has really come into her own this season," said head coach Carly Sweeney. "Consistency is key, and she has demonstrated this in every game so far this season. Her leadership skills are shining through, and she has become the backbone of our defensive unit. She is truly deserving of this recognition."

Anderson will be back in goal tonight, Wednesday, October 2nd, as the 'Grims host Colby-Sawyer College at 7:00 PM in what should be a very competitive GNAC matchup.
