Women’s Soccer Opens Season with Draw Against Panthers

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's soccer team opened their 2023 season with a 0-0 draw against visiting Plymouth State University on Friday afternoon at Don Melander Field in Henniker, New Hampshire.
THE BASICS
Score:                    Plymouth State 0, New England College 0
Records:               Pilgrims 0-0-1 | Panthers 0-0-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a hotly-contested but scoreless first half, the Pilgrims continued to hold the Panthers at bay despite a major deficit in scoring opportunities. With 8:40 to go, Plymouth State graduate forward Kaliana Palhof (Loudon, N.H.) broke through the NEC defense with just the goalie to beat. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Bronowicki (Corona, Calif.) answered the challenge, stopping the shot and allowing her defenders to clear it. Two-and-a-half minutes later with the Panthers taking a corner, Bronowicki again got the save, successfully navigating a mad scrum in front of the goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Bronowicki, last year's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Year, continued to show why she's one of the best goalies in the region, tallying 15 saves on the day.
  • Plymouth State freshman goalkeeper Sydney Rowe (Cañon City, Colo.) got the start in net for the Panthers, finishing with two stops.
  • Plymouth State graduate midfielder McKayla Palhof (Loudon, N.H.) kept the 'Grims defense busy all day long with eight shots, including three on goal.
  • NEC junior defender Mackenzie Daugherty (Gresham, Ore.) had the first shot of the day for the Pilgrims, that coming on goal with 31:40 to go in the second half. Junior forward Shelby McBain (Indianhead, Md.) had the other shot for the home team.
  • The Panthers enjoyed a 26-2 advantage in shots.
