MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The New England College baseball team dropped its first ever matchup against the University of Scranton on Monday in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina during the team's Spring break trip.  

THE BASICS 
Score: New England College 0, University of Scranton 16 
Records: Pilgrims 1-2 | Royals 6-4 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• Scranton put up runs in the first, second, and fourth innings to open up a 6-0 lead before forcing NEC to go to their bullpen. In the sixth, Royals junior outfielder Corey Zientek (Sugarload, Pa.) hit a three-run home run to expand the lead. They would go on to plate five more runs in the seventh inning and one more in the bottom of the eighth.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

• Junior catcher JD Normand (Auburn, N.H.) was the lone Pilgrim to have a multi-hit day as he went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles.  

• Scranton's Zientek had a big day at the plate, going 4 for 6 with 7 RBIs and 3 runs scored.  

• NEC starting pitcher Alex Perez (Leominster, Mass.) took the loss after going five innings with 6 ER and 3 strikeouts. 

• Royals starter Thomas Plunkett (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) threw six scoreless innings to get the win. 

UP NEXT 

• NEC is back on the field on Wednesday, following a day off, where the team faces off against McDaniel College with first pitch set for 1:30 PM. 

• Scranton plays their next game at 10 AM on Tuesday against Mt. Aloysius.
