Men’s Ice Hockey Ends Season in NEHC Playoffs

BOXSCORE
NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The New England College men's ice hockey team saw their 2022-2023 season come to an end in the quarterfinals of the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) playoffs with a 2-1 loss at Norwich University on Saturday evening at Kreitzberg Arena in Northfield, Vermont.
THE BASICS
Score:                    New England College 1, Norwich 2
Records:               Pilgrims 10-15-1, 7-10-1 NEHC | Cadets 19-5-2, 14-2-2 NEHC
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The 'Grims struck first just 3:17 into the game as NEC freshman forward Graham Hassan (Howell, Mich.) scored his third goal of the year, assisted by junior forward Anthony Cinato (Warren, Mich.). For Cinato, it was his team-leading 14th assist of the season, ranking him in the top ten in the conference at press time.
  • Norwich would surge ahead with goals from senior defenseman Keegan Mantaro (Monument, Colo.) and senior forward Braedyn Aubin (Woodstock, Ontario), going into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead.
  • That would hold up for the final score as the Pilgrims were unable to find the equalizer.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC senior goalie Andrew Kormos (Milford, Mich.), a 2022-2023 NEHC All-Conference honoree playing in the final contest of his storied collegiate career, posted a great send-off against the Cadets, tallying 34 saves on the night. With 2:47 left in the game, Kormos made a great glove save to rob Norwich sophomore forward Alex Lewis (Moncton, N.B.) of a goal and keep the 'Grims in the game.
  • Norwich senior goalie Drennan Atherton (Winter Haven, Fla.) finished with 24 stops for the Cadets.
  • Shots on goal were 36-25 in favor of Norwich.
