Men’s Hoops Concludes Regular Season with Dominant Win

MEDFORD, Mass. – The New England College men's basketball team won at Lesley on Saturday afternoon in Medford, Massachusetts in their New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) regular season finale. 

THE BASICS
Score: New England College 69, Lesley University 53 
Records: Pilgrims 7-17, 3-3 NECC | Lynx 3-20, 0-6 NECC

TURNING POINTS 

  • The first half started with a back-and-forth before NEC went on a 10-0 run to hold a 23-15 lead with 8:07 left. Lesley closed out the half on a 14-7 run of their own, with the 'Grims bringing a 1-point advantage into halftime. 

  • With 14:55 to go in the game, the 'Grims still grasped onto a narrow 1-point lead. Following a timeout by head coach Charlie Mason, NEC caught fire and went on a 23-6 run. The Pilgrims never looked back and rounded out the regular season with a 69 to 53 victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • NEC was led by sophomore guard Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) who scored 15 points on an efficient shooting night (4-7 FG) and brought down 9 rebounds.  

  • Freshman shooting guard Stravis Lutchman (Bradenton, Fla.) recorded his first career double-double as he scored 10 points and gathered 10 rebounds.  

  • 'Grims sophomore guard Cameron Le Van (Elizabeth, Colo.) added 8 points to go along with 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. 

  • Lesley senior guard Tye Lubetsky (San Carlos, CA) scored 13 points for the Lynx while senior forward Scott Barlow (North Caldwell, N.J.) added 11. 

  • The Pilgrims dominated down low, scoring 44 points in the paint while holding Lesley to just 16. 

  • The 'Grims outrebounded the Lynx 48 to 28. 

  • NEC is now 10-1 against Lesley all-time.

  • As conference play wraps up, both teams look ahead to the NECC Semifinals on Wednesday, February 22nd.
