HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's ice hockey team saw their 2022-2023 season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to visiting William Smith College on Saturday afternoon at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

SENIOR DAY
• Prior to the game, the New England College women's ice hockey program and athletics department recognized this year's senior class as part of senior day. Forwards

Tatiana Fedeneva (Pervouralsk, Russia),
Mikayla Vincent (Newburyport, Mass.) and
Cassie Kelly (Alexandria, Minn.) and goalies
Sean D'urso (Andover, Mass.) and
Hannah Podvey (West Caldwell, N.J.) were honored by coaches, teammates, family members and fans for all their accomplishments at NEC both on and off the ice. Although their time with the program may be coming to an end, they will forever be a part of the 'Grims family.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 'Grims, looking for their first win in fourteen games, were scrappy in the opening minutes, holding off the Heron offense until 17:53 into the first period when William Smith senior forward Julianna Gong (Hingham, Mass.) found the back of the net for her first goal of the season assisted by sophomore forward Kayla Ketchabaw (Rye Brook, N.Y.) to go ahead 1-0.
- The Herons made it 2-0 on a power play exactly three minutes into the second period on a goal from junior forward Elizabeth MacMurray (Pottstown, Pa.), assisted by sophomore defenders Sydney Lester (Nantucket, Mass.) and Annabel Ziskin (Smithtown, N.Y.).
- Finally, with just 11 seconds left in the game, William Smith senior forward Emma Faso (Clarence Center, N.Y.) scored her fifth goal of the season, assisted by junior forward Mackenzie O'Neil (Wellesley, Mass.) for the final score of 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Podvey got the start in net, stopping 22 of 23 shots in 29 minutes. D'urso took over in relief, tallying 21 saves the rest of the way.
- William Smith junior goalie Annie Hauser (White Plains, N.Y.) picked up the shutout win with 27 saves.
- The Heron enjoyed a 46-27 edge in total shots.

- NEC concludes their 2022-2023 season with their most win total since 2017 while winning their first conference game in four years.
