Efosa’s 27 Powers Men’s Basketball Over Badgers

JOHNSON, Vt. – New England College sophomore guard Junior Efosa (Haverhill, Mass.) scored a career-high 27 points as the NEC men's basketball team won 71-63 at Northern Vermont University Johnson on Thursday evening at Carter Varsity Gymnasium in Johnson, Vermont in non-conference action.

TURNING POINTS
  • Tied at 25-25 at halftime, the 'Grims found themselves clinging to a three-point lead with 9:14 left in the game. That's when NEC exploded for a 13-0 run over the next two minutes, a stretch capped off with a short jumper from graduate guard Jayden McGrew (Garland, Tex.) to put the Pilgrims ahead 58-42 with 7:03 remaining. The Badgers rallied to pull to within two with a minute left, but a three-pointer from NEC senior guard Kyle Inglis (Burlington, Mass.) proved to be the dagger.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Efosa shot 60 percent from the floor for the 'Grims and pulled down nine rebounds on the night in a dominating performance.
  • Johnson senior forward Nazir Gossette (Philadelphia, Penn.) led the Badgers with 18 points and nine rebounds.  
  • NEC junior guard Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) scored 14 points with seven boards, all while dishing out four assists.
  • Johnson junior forward Raymond Baka (Atlanta, Ga.) posted a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
  • McGrew added nine points, six assists and five rebounds.
  • The Pilgrims enjoyed a 21-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
