Records: Pilgrims 2-9-1, 2-8-0 GNAC | Lasers 8-4-1, 7-2-1 GNAC
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half was hotly contested as the Lasers, picked second in the GNAC preseason poll, found a series of scoring opportunities only to be turned away time and time again by a 'Grim defense led by NEC sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Bronowicki (Corona, Calif.). Lasell finally found the back of the net with 8:35 remaining in the opening period when graduate defender Grace Rava (Wilton, Conn.) found sophomore midfielder Evelyn DiFiore (Las Vegas, Nev.) for her fifth goal of the season, as the visitors took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
- In the second period, Lasell started to find the cracks in the NEC defense, scoring two insurance goals in the half to spoil senior day for the Pilgrims.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Bronowicki posted another strong performance for the Pilgrims, tallying eight saves on the day.
- Lasell freshman goalkeeper Lataya Simmons (Cape Coral, Fla.) picked up the shutout win for the Lasers, playing all 90 minutes.
- The Lasers boasted a 21-2 edge in total shots and a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
- In addition to DiFiore's eventual game-winner, Lasell received goals from junior midfielder Michelina D'Agostino (Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Camdyn LaMarre (Belgrade, Maine), both coming in the second half. D'Agostino's goal gave her a team-high six on the season.
- NEC sophomore midfielder Mia Loewenberg (Milford, Conn.) had one of NEC's two shots on the day.
SENIOR DAY
- Prior to the game, the New England College women's soccer program and the NEC athletics department recognized this year's senior class as part of senior day. Senior forward Julia Lanoie (Manchester, N.H.) and senior defender Catie Wheeler (Benton City, Wash.) were honored by coaches, teammates, family members and fans for all of their accomplishments at NEC both on and off the field. Although their time with the program may be coming to an end, they will forever be a part of the 'Grims family.
