HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was defined by the hosts dominating possession and scoring opportunities, only to find themselves stopped just short of the net. After a scoreless first period, the 'Grims finally got on the board just 1:02 into the second quarter when NEC junior midfielder Meaghan McCamish (Warwick, R.I.) recovered a save off a shot from teammate graduate forward Drea Chin (Laconia, N.H.) and finished for her eighth goal on the season. Later with a tied score and 2:03 left in the half, McCamish would setup graduate midfielder Mikayla Vincent (Newburyport, Mass.) for her eighth goal of the season, as New England College went into halftime leading 2-1. That would hold up for the final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC sophomore goalkeeper Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.), fresh off earning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week honors, tallied three saves on the night for the Pilgrims.
- Fitchburg senior goalkeeper Jenna Morse (Leominster, Mass.) turned in a valiant effort for the Falcons, finishing with 13 stops.
- NEC took a 23-8 advantage in shots.
