HAMDEN, Conn – In just their third season as a program, the New England College men's golf team won the 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship on Tuesday afternoon at the New Haven Country Club in Hamden, Connecticut, beating out seven other teams. The Pilgrims combined to complete the two-day event with 646 strokes for 86 over par, beating out their next closest rival, the Cadets of Norwich University, by seven strokes.
TOP 'GRIMS
- NEC junior Timothy Carlson (Albany, N.Y.) was the top finisher for the 'Grims, finishing with a 16 over par for a 156, good for second overall, individually.
- NEC sophomore Graham Hassan (Pinckney, Mich.) posted a strong day two, ending with a 161 at 21 over par, tied for fifth among all players.
- NEC sophomore Kam Hellman (Macomb, Mich.) dominated on day one with his best performance as a Pilgrim, finishing the championships with a 24 over par.
- NEC sophomore Kaleb O'Connor (Rochester, N.H.) ended the championships at 31 over, while NEC senior Roman O'Brienhalla (Chapel Hill, N.C.) wrapped up the team's winning efforts with a 32-over par.

"The last two days were a grind," NEC head coach Travis Banga said. "The wind and the greens were extremely hard! The guys played so good day one and front 9 day two and were able to hold the lead. Ben [Stone] and I are so proud of how the guys competed this week and all year! We have a great group of guys and golfers and happy to bring a GNAC championship back to NEC."
