Women’s Hoops’ Rally Comes Up Just Short to Emerson

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's basketball team lost 76-69 to visiting Emerson College on Monday evening at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action.

TURNING POINTS

Down by double-digits for most of the game, the 'Grims used an 8-2 run at the start of the fourth to pull to within four with 6:44 to go off a jumper from junior guard Lara Matias (Long Beach, Cali.). Then with 5:16 left, freshman guard Makiah Scott (Washington, D.C.) found junior center Kathleen Rodriguez (McFarlane, Cali.) under the basket for a layup to pull NEC to within three at 62-59. But it would be the Lions answering down the stretch with a 9-1 run, capped off with a pair of free throws from junior guard Olivia Deslauriers (West Hartford, Conn.) to put the game out of reach.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

NEC senior forward Ericka Pratt (Miami, Fla.) posted another double-double with 13 points, 14 rebounds, six steals, two assists and one block while shooting 50 percent from the floor.
Emerson junior guard Ella Bushee (Walpole, N.H.) led all scorers with 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting while pulling down five boards.
Rodriguez finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, shooting five-of-five from the floor.
Deslauriers was a force inside with 20 points and ten boards for the Lions while adding three steals.
Scott came off the bench to post her best game as a 'Grim with 11 points, five steals and four rebounds in just 15 minutes, shooting two-of-three from downtown.

Up next for NEC, the team travels to Mitchell College on Thursday evening for a critical New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) battle against the host Mariners with a tip-off of 5:00 p.m.
Emerson hosts Wheaton College in their next game, that coming on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
