HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Down two sets to none going into the third, the 'Grims exploded in the third set, winning twelve of fourteen rallies at one point before pulling away. In the fourth, NEC jumped out to a 7-1 lead off the serve of senior defensive specialist Jaycie Kodama (Pauoa Valley, Hawaii), then held off a late charge by MCLA to tie it up as the fans at the Bridges Gymnasium erupted in celebration.
  • In the fifth set, the Pilgrims faithful were at the edge of their seat for every rally. With the score tied at 11-all, the home team took the lead off a massive spike from junior outside hitter Amber Thi (Kalihi, Hawaii) as the gym exploded.
