The New England College Baseball team begins New England Collegiate Conference action as they head down to New London, Conn., to take on Mitchell College for a doubleheader starting at noon.
New England College (4-6, 0-0 NECC) is coming off being swept by both Salem State and Anna Maria College. Haruataro Takahashi, Michael Ciccotelli, and Connor Morin lead the Pilgrims offensively. Takahashi is batting .381 at the plate, while Ciccotelli paces the team with six doubles and is second with seven RBI. Morin has the lone home run for NEC on the year, while he also leads the team with eight runs driven in. On the mount, the Pilgrims' pitching staff has been solid all year, as they have allowed their opponents to five or fewer earned runs in nine of ten games. Alex Perez (20), Shayne Audet (19), and Shaun Cormier (17) all have double-digit strikeouts, while Corey O'Day, Nolan Stoney, Stephen Dunham, and Brendan Hickey all have sub-1.00 ERAs out of the bullpen.
Mitchell College (12-4, 0-0 NECC) is currently riding a nine-game winning streak, with their last loss coming against Baldwin Wallace on March 9th, down in Port Charlotte, Fla. The Mariners are led offensively by Matt Falk, who is batting .327 with four homeruns and 16 RBI. The Yaworski brothers (Hunter and Bo) have been solid in the middle of the Mitchell lineup this year, as they have combined for a .429 batting average with two long balls, 11 doubles, and 37 RBI. Camren Varney and Chris Gibbs headline a pitching staff with a 3.50 ERA with 118 strikeouts to just 38 walks.
