Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The New England College Baseball team recorded a walk-off sacrifice fly, off the bat of Pat Hagerty, to pick up a 5-4 win over McDaniel to kick off their 2022 Spring Break Trip, Friday Evening at the Ripken Experience.

HOW IT HAPPENED
New England College was the first team to score, as they plated two runs in the bottom of the second. JD Normand laced a single to left field, plating Harutaro Takahashi from third. Brady Philibotte drove in Normand with a flair to shallow center field.
The Pilgrims added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, as Takahashi ripped a double down the right-field line, plating Philibotte on the play. The Green Terror broke through on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, as Billy Wheatley singled through the right side of the infield, scoring Joey Hubinger on the play. Michael Ciccotelli tacked on another run for the 'Grims as he pulled a double down the right-field line, scoring Kyle Dobrie on the play.
McDaniel cut into the New England College lead as Jake Smith snuck an RBI single through the left side of the infield, scoring Shane Daly on the play. The Green Terrors carried their momentum into the top of the eighth as they tied the game, but Tim Krol would strand the go-ahead run on third with an inning-ending strikeout.
After a 1-2-3 top of the ninth by freshman Corey O'Day, the Pilgrims jumped at an early opportunity. Connor Morin reached via a hit by pitch, Takahashi recorded his third double of the game, making it second and third with just one out in the frame. JD Normand drew an intentional walk to load the bases, but Hagerty launched a fly ball to center field, which was deep enough to score Morin from third, to walk it off for the Pilgrims.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Shayne Audet got the start as he went 6.0 innings, striking out ten while scattering three hits.
- Harutaro Takahashi went 4-5 at the plate on the day, with three doubles.
- This is the first time that these two teams have faced off. NEC now leads the all-time series 1-0.
