HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Trailing 3-1 late in the first period, the 'Grims toughened up, pulling to within one off a goal from senior forward Alex LaPlante (Londonderry, N.H.) with 3:19 left in the opening frame, his team-leading fifth of the season. Then with 11:23 remaining in the second, freshman forward Manny Cabral (Providence, R.I.) tied it up at three-all off his fourth goal of the season.
  • With 5:58 left in the game and NEC on a power play, sophomore forward David Novotny (Delray Beach, Fla.) took a pass from Cabral and sent it home, tying LaPlante for the team goal-scoring lead with his fifth goal of the season. The 4-3 advantage would hold up for the final.
